Tips to Succeed at Williams College

  • Talk to your professors. Sometimes they face the same issues as you do.

  • Talk to alumni. They, for sure, have faced the same issues as you, especially with finding jobs and internships.

  • Don't start a senior thesis unless you are sure you are in love with your topic and can handle it for as long as a lifetime.

  • Don't start a thesis in the political science department, even if you are in love with your topic. Just make sure the faculty are in love with it.

  • Pick your classes carefully. Read about the professors who teach them, and ask students who took the classes before.

  • If you are an international student, take economics to prepare for the job market that Williams exposes you to.

  • Do not assume that Williams is boring if you are not a jock.

  • Avoid conflict with the librarians in Sawyer, especially if you have something overdue. You might lose some hair or teeth in a battle with the librarians.

  • Take advantage of the excellent sports facilities, even if you are not into sports.

  • Go abroad junior year. Or some summer.

  • Don't take Williams for granted. It is a place where many good people work to make you a better person.

  • Don't blame it on Williams if you don't think you are becoming a better person.

  • Go skiing to battle the cold.
