Dromio of Syracuse and Antipholus of Syracuse, one of the play's two sets of mismatched twins (the others are Dromio of Ephesus and Antipholus of Ephesus), banter about the perils of baldness. When Antipholus asks why Time is so selfish with hair, Dromio responds that "it is a blessing that he bestows on beasts." Antipholus then replies with the quotation in question. The twosome eventually concludes that time is also bald, and there will be "bald followers" until the end of time.
