    In the movie “Renditon” the agent says that under torture the suspect confessed to things he did not do. The movie was based on a true stroy and was released in 2007.  It stared Omar Metwally and Reece Whitherspoon.  The quote is a popular one and was also a quote is in the play Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare.  In Act 3  Scene 2  Portia is speaking to Bassanio and he speaks of being “upon the rack.”

    “BASSANIO: Let me choose; I live upon the rack.         

    PORTIA:  Upon the rack, Bassanio? then confess

    BASSANIO: None, but that ugly treason of mistrust, amity and life
     

    PORTIA: Ay, but I fear you speak upon the rack,
    Where men enforced do speak anything.

    BASSANIO: Promise me life, and I'll confess the truth. 

    PORTIA: Well, then, confess, and live. “
