Question:

My father says the proper quote for Juliet is "a rose by any other word..." not name would smell as sweet. What say you?

  1. Your father is correct!  Although many versions of the text use "name" rather than "word", Juliet actually uses the the phrase:

    That which we call a rose
    By any other word would smell as sweet;

    As is pointed out in the discussion of this quote in the Shakespeare quotes section, Juliet uses "name" six times in fifteen and a half lines, but not in this case!
