You are right in that there have been many interpretations of this poem. It has been speculated that Blake is talking to English society in general due to the amount of corruption that was present in it and the English government during this time period. Blake could also be speaking to a mistress or prostitute who perhaps spread diseases to many people during this period. Another interpretation is that Blake is speaking to a lover who has caused him great grief and sadness and anger. I tend to believe that he is speaking to a lover or former lover who has hurt or wronged him. Love can ruin a life for some people who let it (perhaps emotionally they cannot trust someone again, for example); however, we all have a choice as far as how we react to a lost love.
