These two poems deal with two different subjects, in my opinion. "The Poison Tree" deals with the inability to let go of grudges and ill-intent towards anyone, not just people one loves. To me, it is about how we should not only be willing to forgive our loved ones that wrong us, we should also be willing to forgive anyone who wrongs us. If not, only bad can come of it. "The Pebble and the Clod" strikes me as a poem about completely different views of love, one that is positive and hopeful about love and one that is negative and distrustful. The clod's view, to me, is a more mature view of love, one that knows that yes, love can be painful, but that love is a beautiful thing and is worth the pain. The pebble's view is more immature and bitter, leading me to believe that it has not experienced true love. Posted by kwoo1213 on Sep 7, 2008. |
