Zhukov, Georgi
Zhukov, Georgi ( Konstantinovich Georgi Zhukov ) ( 1896 – 1974 )Soviet military leader, born in Russia. He was responsible for much of the planning of the Soviet Union's campaigns in World War II. He defeated the Germans at Stalingrad ( 1943 ), lifted the Siege of Leningrad ( 1944 ), led the final assault on Germany and the capture of Berlin ( 1945 ), and became commander of the Soviet zone in occupied Germany after the war.
