Vereeniging, Treaty of
Vereeniging, Treaty of ( 31 May 1902 )The peace treaty that ended the Second Boer War . It provided for the acceptance by Boers of British sovereignty, the use of Afrikaans in schools and law courts, a civil administration leading to self-government, a repatriation commission, and compensation of £3 million for the destruction inflicted during the war on Boer farms.
