Tacna–Arica Conflict

Tacna–Arica Conflict ( 1883 – 1929 )
A territorial dispute between Peru and Chile. The provinces of Tacna and Arica belonged to Peru at the time of its independence from Spain, but after the War of the Pacific ( 1879 – 84 ), Chile appropriated Arica and Tacna. In 1929 negotiations between Peru and Chile produced a settlement that returned Tacna to Peru with an indemnity of $6 million and left Arica under Chilean control.
