Tacna–Arica Conflict
Tacna–Arica Conflict ( 1883 – 1929 )A territorial dispute between Peru and Chile. The provinces of Tacna and Arica belonged to Peru at the time of its independence from Spain, but after the War of the Pacific ( 1879 – 84 ), Chile appropriated Arica and Tacna. In 1929 negotiations between Peru and Chile produced a settlement that returned Tacna to Peru with an indemnity of $6 million and left Arica under Chilean control.
