Salisbury, Robert Arthur Talbot Gascoigne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of ( 1830 – 1903 )British Conservative statesman, Prime Minister ( 1885 – 86 ; 1886 – 92 ; 1895 – 1902 ). His main area of concern was foreign affairs; he was a firm defender of British imperial interests and supported the policies that resulted in the Second Boer War ( 1899 – 1902 ).
