Lake George, Battle of
Lake George, Battle of ( 8 September 1755 )An engagement in the French and Indian wars fought 80 km (50 miles) north of Albany, New York. New England and New York militia and Iroquois commanded by William Johnson ( 1715 – 74 ) defeated a French force and halted their advance. This victory offset General Braddock's defeat of the summer.
