Jansen, Cornelius Otto
Jansen, Cornelius Otto ( 1585 – 1638 )Flemish Roman Catholic theologian and founder of Jansenism . A strong opponent of the Jesuits, he proposed a reform of Christianity through a return to St Augustine . To this end he produced his major work, Augustinus ( 1640 ), which was published by his followers after his death. The four‐volume study followed St Augustine's teachings and formed the basis of Jansenism.
