Jackson, Thomas Jonathan
Jackson, Thomas Jonathan (known as ‘Stonewall Jackson’) ( 1824 – 63 )US general. During the American Civil War he made his mark as a commander at the first Battle of Bull Run in 1861 ; a successful defensive stand there earned him his nickname. As the deputy of Robert E. Lee , he played an important part in the Confederate victories in Virginia in the first two years of the war.
