Fawcett, Dame Millicent Garrett
Fawcett, Dame Millicent Garrett ( 1847 – 1929 )British feminist. Sister of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson , she was a pioneer of the movement in Britain to secure equality for women in voting, education, and careers. She was strongly supported by her husband, Henry Fawcett , a Liberal politician and academic. In 1897 she became President of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, whose policy was to gain votes for women without the militancy soon to be associated with the suffragettes .
