Farouk
Farouk ( 1920 – 65 )King of Egypt ( 1936 – 52 ). On assuming power he dismissed Prime Minister Nahas Pasha , but was forced by the British government to reinstate him. Farouk's defeat in the Arab–Israeli conflict of 1948 , together with the general corruption of his reign, led to a military coup in 1952 , headed by General Neguib ( 1901 – 84 ) and masterminded by Nasser . Farouk was forced to abdicate in favour of his infant son, Fuad; he was sent into exile and eventually became a citizen of Monaco.
