Cadbury, George

Cadbury, George ( 1839 – 1922 )
British cocoa and chocolate manufacturer and social reformer. He and his brother Richard ( 1835 – 99 ) took over their father's business in 1861 and established Cadbury Brothers. Committed Quakers, they greatly improved working conditions and in 1879 George Cadbury moved the works to a new factory on a rural site (which he called Bournville) outside Birmingham, where he subsequently built a housing estate intended primarily for his workers.
