Babeuf, François Noël ( 1760 – 97 )
French Revolutionary who called himself ‘ Caius‐ Gracchus , tribune of the people’. A domestic servant before the French Revolution, he moved to Paris in 1794 . There he started to publish the Journal de la liberté de la presse, in which he argued that the Revolution should go further than establishing political equality. He formed a small group (the Equals) of discontented artisans and soldiers and campaigned for the equal ownership of property by all.
