    All freshman who do not commute are required to live on campus. Roommates are basically matched on two criteria:

    1-Do you prefer to get up early or stay up late.
    2-Do you regard yourself as messy or tidy.

    I can say that from my experience i got matched with a really good roommate. Also if you are not happy with your roommate it is not too complicated to get a switch.
