What is the signifiance of the useless actions of the characters in "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett?

If you have time, read "The Myth of Sisyphus" by Albert Camus and compare the two. In that story, Camus says, "There is no fate that cannot be surmounted by scorn." (English translation of his original French)
Think about how we defy what we cannot change. That seems to be the main character's approach. He WAS and he IS and that means something! He refuses to be less than whatever it is that he is.

Before I finish, let me remind you of Milton's poem "On His Blindness." He wrote, "He also serves who only stands and waits." Sometimes there is little else we can do. Read and think.
