Zardoz (1973) Zardoz

Zardoz ★★ 1973 A surreal parable of the far future (2293), when Earth society is broken into strict classes: a society of intellectuals known as the Eternals, a society of savages called the Brutals, and an elite unit of killers, naturally named the Exterminators, who keep the order. The Exterminators worship a stone god named Zardoz, but killer Zed (Connery) discovers that it's merely a futuristic version of "The Wizard of Oz" and that the Eternals have been manipulating the social order. His presence causes chaos and destruction (but he does get all the babes). Visually interesting but pretentious. 105m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. GB Sean Connery, Charlotte Rampling, John Alderton, Sara Kestelman, Sally Anne Newton, Niall Buggy, Christopher Casson, Bosco Hogan, Jessica Swift; Director: John Boorman; Writer: John Boorman; Writer: Geoffrey Unsworth; Cameo: David Munrow.
