Year of the Gun (1991) Year of the Gun

Year of the Gun ★★½ 1991 (R) McCarthy is an American journalist in Rome who begins a novel based on the political instability around him, using the names of real people in his first draft. Soon, ambitious photojournalist Stone wants to collaborate with him, and the Red Brigade terrorist group wants to "remove" anyone associated with the book. Although failing on occasion to balance the thin line it establishes between reality and perception, "Gun" aspires to powerful drama, offering a realistic look at the lives and priorities of political terrorists. Love scenes between Stone and McCarthy are torrid. 111m/C VHS, DVD. Andrew McCarthy, Sharon Stone, Valeria Golino, John Pankow, Mattia Sbragia, George Murcell; Director: John Frankenheimer; Writer: David Ambrose, Jay Presson Allen; Cameo: Bill Conti.
