Wild at Heart (1990) Wild at Heart

Wild at Heart ★★★½ 1990 (R) Dern and Cage are on the lam, going across country to escape her mother, his parole officer, and life. Humorous and frightening, sensual and evocative as only Lynch can be. Sweet love story of Sailor and Lula is juxtaposed with the violent and bizarre, obsessive brand of love of the people they encounter. Unmistakable Wizard of Oz imagery sprinkled throughout, as are some scenes of graphic violence. Ladd is unnerving as Dern's on-screen mother (she also has the role off-screen). 125m/C VHS, Wide. Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Willem Dafoe, Isabella Rossellini, Harry Dean Stanton, Crispin Glover, Grace Zabriskie, J.E. Freeman, Freddie Jones, Sherilyn Fenn, Sheryl Lee, Albert "Poppy" Popwell, Jack Nance, Charlie Spradling; Director: David Lynch; Writer: David Lynch; Writer: Frederick Elmes; Cameo: Angelo Badalamenti. Cannes '90: Film; Ind. Spirit '91: Cinematog.
