Waking the Dead (2000) Waking the Dead

Waking the Dead ★★½ 2000 (R) Director Gordon's uneven but earnest adaptation of the Scott Spencer novel features Crudup as Fielding Pierce, an aspiring politician haunted by the death ten years earlier of his activist girlfriend Sarah (Connelly) in a car bombing. As Fielding begins a run at the Senate, he starts to see Sarah in crowds, wondering if the reports of her death were exaggerated, and doubting his sanity. The love story angle gets a lot of play, yet manages to be unconvincing, and the frequent jumps back and forth in time are jarring. Crudup and Connelly seem in over their heads at times. 105m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. Billy Crudup, Jennifer Connelly, Molly Parker, Janet McTeer, Paul Hipp, Sandra Oh, Hal Holbrook, Lawrence Dane; Director: Keith Gordon; Writer: Robert Dillon; Writer: Tom Richmond; Cameo: Tomandandy.
