The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) The Thomas Crown Affair

The Thomas Crown Affair ★★★ 1999 (R) Slick, lavish, updated, and loose adaptation of the 1968 Steve McQueen/Faye Dunaway caper. Thomas Crown (Brosnan) is a self-made New York billionaire, who just can't resist pulling off the perfect crime by stealing a Monet from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Catherine Banning (Russo) is the gorgeous insurance investigator on his trail, who can't help falling for the very charming criminal. The fortysomething duo sizzle (how fantastic to see two age-appropriate lovers for a change) and if the ending has a tacked-on feel, it doesn't really matter. Dunaway makes a cameo appearance as Crown's therapist. 111m/C VHS, DVD. Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo, Denis Leary, Frankie Faison, Ben Gazzara, Fritz Weaver, Charles Keating, Mark Margolis, Faye Dunaway, Esther Canadas; Director: John McTiernan; Writer: Leslie Dixon, Kurt Wimmer; Writer: Tom Priestley; Cameo: Bill Conti.
