A Shot at Glory (2000) A Shot at Glory

A Shot at Glory ★★ 2000 (R) So-so Scottish soccer saga starring Duvall as McLeod, the manager of a struggling local football club. Looking to launch the lads into stardom, the team's new American owner Cameron (Keaton) hires former star McQuillan (real-life player McCoist) against the wishes of McLeod. Despite McQuillan's drinking and carousing—which has cost him his marriage to none other than McLeod's daughter Kate (Mitchell)—the Knockies soon find their way into the Scottish Cup finals, where McLeod meets up with his old nemesis Smith (Cox), manager of the opposing Glasgow Rangers. Though thin on drama, well-shot soccer action will appeal to sports fans. Duvall's high profile and manufactured brogue bog down an otherwise solid performance. 115m/C VHS, DVD. Robert Duvall, Michael Keaton, Brian Cox, Cole Hauser, Ally McCoist, Kirsty Mitchell, Morag Hood, Libby Langdon; Director: Michael Corrente; Writer: Dennis O'Neill; Writer: Alex Thomson; Cameo: Mark Knopfler.
