Postcards from the Edge (1990) Postcards from the Edge

Postcards from the Edge ★★★½ 1990 (R) Fisher adapted her best-selling novel, tamed and tempered, for the big screen with a tour-deforce of talent. Streep very fine as a delightfully harried actress struggling with her career, her drug dependence, and her competitive, overwhelming show-biz mother. Autobiographical script is bitingly clever and filled with refreshingly witty dialogue. Lots of cameos by Hollywood's hippest. 101m/C VHS, DVD, 8mm, Wide. Meryl Streep, Shirley MacLaine, Dennis Quaid, Gene Hackman, Richard Dreyfuss, Rob Reiner, Mary Wickes, Conrad Bain, Annette Bening, Michael Ontkean, Dana Ivey, Robin Bartlett, Anthony Heald, Oliver Platt, CCH Pounder; Director: Mike Nichols; Writer: Carrie Fisher; Writer: Michael Ballhaus; Cameo: Shel Silverstein, Carly Simon, Stephen Sondheim, Howard Shore, Paul Shaffer, Gilda Radner.
