Operation Dumbo Drop (1995) Operation Dumbo Drop

Operation Dumbo Drop ★★½ Dumbo Drop 1995 (PG) It's 1968 and tough Green Beret captain (Glover), rescued by Vietnamese villagers, promises to replace their prized elephant, which was killed during his mission. He and a group of commandos use land, sea, and air to transport the reluctant beast, learning way more about elephant hygiene and eating habits than they ever wanted to know in the process. Wincer, who also directed "Free Willy," seems to be going for the title of "greatest large mammal director of all time." Anything with good-guy U.S. troops, a paratrooper elephant, and a family-friendly plot should be a Bob Dole favorite. 107m/C VHS. Danny Glover, Ray Liotta, Doug E. Doug, Denis Leary, Corin "Corky" Nemec, Thein Le Dihn; Director: Simon Wincer; Writer: Jim Kouf, Gene Quintano; Writer: Russell Boyd; Cameo: David Newman.
