O Quatrilho (1995) O Quatrilho

O Quatrilho ★★ 1995 Two young couples from Italy immigrate to southern Brazil in the 1910s, hoping to find their fortunes. Thrifty peasant Angelo (Paternost) marries romantic Teresa (Pillar) and goes into business with the equally romantic Massimo (Campos), who's married to the thrifty Pierina (Pires). The grain mill thrives but the romantic half of each couple delve into some illicit amore and decide to flee while their left-behind spouses discover their own attractions. A happy ending is had by all (this must be a fairytale). Lots of high-gloss gush. Based on the novel by Jose Clemente Pozenat. Portuguese and Italian with subtitles. 120m/C VHS. BR Gloria Pires, Patricia Pillar, Bruno Campos, Alexandre Paternost; Director: Fabio Barreto; Writer: Leopoldo Serran; Writer: Felix Monti; Cameo: Caetano Veloso.
