Notes from Underground ★★ 1995 Modern adaptation of the Dostoevsky novella has Czerny starring as a nameless, alienated civil servant who can only find pleasure in the petty torments his job allows him to inflict on others. Everything he does to broaden his world backfires in humiliating ways. Most of the film consists of monologues that Czerny records on a homevideo camera as he recalls the worst moments in his life. Fortunately, Czerny is up to the nearly one-man task of carrying this odd film. 90m/C VHS. Henry Czerny, Sheryl Lee, Jon Favreau, Charles Stratton;
