Naked Tango (1991) Naked Tango

Naked Tango ★½ 1991 (R) A lurid recreation of the Argentinian underworld in 1924. Stephanie is a bored wife with an older husband who, while traveling with her husband on a cruise ship, pretends to fall overboard in order to establish a new identity. The problem is she becomes the supposed mail-order bride of a young man who promptly sells her into white slavery. One of her customers is a charismatic killer named Cholo who isn't interested in Stephanie for sex, he just wants to dance the tango with her. This is meant to be taken seriously but is one of the many pretensions, erotic and otherwise, that hamper the film. 90m/C VHS. Mathilda May, Vincent D'Onofrio, Esai Morales, Fernando Rey; Director: Leonard Schrader; Writer: Leonard Schrader; Cameo: Thomas Newman.
