Naked in New York (1993) Naked in New York

Naked in New York ★★½ 1993 (R) Aspiring New York playwright Jake Briggs (Stoltz) and his girlfriend Joanne (Parker), an aspiring photographer, find their relationship in jeopardy when their respective careers start to take off. Offspring from the "Annie Hall" school of neurotic romance examines a number of issues, including ambition, commitment, and the societal dynamics of theatre and art. Celebrity appearances abound, including Styron as himself and Goldberg as a tragedy mask on a wall. Directorial debut of Scorsese protege Algrant is uneven but charming. Parker is particularly strong, and Turner's a riot as a sexpot soap star on the prowl for Jake. 89m/C VHS. Eric Stoltz, Mary-Louise Parker, Ralph Macchio, Jill Clayburgh, Tony Curtis, Kathleen Turner, Timothy Dalton, Lynne Thigpen, Roscoe Lee Browne; Cameos: Whoopi Goldberg, William Styron, Eric Bogosian, Quentin Crisp; Director: Dan Algrant; Writer: Dan Algrant, John Warren; Cameo: Angelo Badalamenti; V: David Johansen.
