Masque of the Red Death (1989) Masque of the Red Death

Masque of the Red Death ★★ 1989 (R) Roger Corman's second attempt at Edgar Allan Poe's horror tale pales compared to his Vincent Price version made 25 years earlier. Under-aged cast adds youth appeal but subtracts credibility from the fable of a sadistic prince and his sycophants trying to ignore the plague outside castle walls. Only late in the plot does veteran actor Macnee add proper note of doom. 90m/C VHS. Patrick Macnee, Jeffery Osterhage, Adrian Paul, Tracy Reiner, Maria Ford, Clare Hoak; Director: Larry Brand; Writer: Larry Brand, Daryl Haney; Writer: Edward Pei; Cameo: Mark Governor.
