The Magnificent Ambersons (2002) The Magnificent Ambersons

The Magnificent Ambersons ★★½ 2002 George Amberson (Rhys Meyers) is the spoiled son of an upper-class, turn-of-the-century Midwestern family. When his widowed mother Isabel (Stowe) is reunited with old flame Eugene Morgan (Greenwood), George becomes obsessively jealous and schemes to break up the match even as he romances Eugene's daughter, Lucy (Mol). Stowe looks beautiful but Rhys Meyers over-emphasizes George's less-than-filial response to his mother. Adaptation of Booth Tarkington's novel that reportedly used Orson Welles original script for his 1942 film. 139m/C VHS, DVD. Madeleine Stowe, Bruce Greenwood, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jennifer Tilly, Gretchen Mol, James Cromwell, William Hootkins; Director: Alfonso Arau. CABLE
