Love with the Proper Stranger (1963) Love with the Proper Stranger

Love with the Proper Stranger ★★★ 1963 A quiet, gritty romance about an itinerant musician and a young working girl in Manhattan awkwardly living through the consequences of their one-night stand. Moved Wood well into the realm of adult roles, after years playing teenagers and innocents. Although the story is about an Italian neighborhood and family, an exceptional number of the cast members were Jewish, as was the screenwriter. Story does not conclude strongly, although this did not hamper the boxoffice returns. 102m/B VHS. Natalie Wood, Steve McQueen, Edie Adams, Herschel Bernardi, Tom Bosley, Harvey Lembeck, Penny Santon, Virginia Vincent, Nick Alexander, Augusta Ciolli; Director: Robert Mulligan; Writer: Arnold Schulman; Writer: Milton Krasner; Cameo: Elmer Bernstein.
