Krippendorf's Tribe (1998) Krippendorf's Tribe

Krippendorf's Tribe ★★ 1998 (PG-13) James Krippendorf (Dreyfuss), a widowed anthropology professor, returns from an expedition to New Guinea after squandering all his grant money on his kids. Since he didn't find the rare tribe he was sent there for, he makes up tribal stories based on his own kids. When skeptic Tomlin demands proof of his amazing discoveries, the Krippendorf clan and an over-eager colleague (Elfman) go native in front of the camera. Works best when at its silliest, and in fact, could have been a fun family film. Unfortunately, most of the humor is of the smutty variety, involving mating rituals, tribal sex toys, circumcision jokes, and so on. 94m/C VHS. Richard Dreyfuss, Jenna Elfman, Natasha Lyonne, Gregory Edward Smith, Stephen (Steve) Root, Elaine Stritch, Tom Poston, David Ogden Stiers, Lily Tomlin, Doris Belack, Julio Oscar Mechoso, Barbara Williams, Zakes Mokae, Carl Michael Lindner, Siobhan Fallon; Director: Todd Holland; Writer: Charlie Peters; Writer: Dean Cundey; Cameo: Bruce Broughton.
