The Jacket (2005) The Jacket

The Jacket ★★½ 2005 (R) A gulf vet (Brody) is falsely convicted of murder; but having no memory of the crime, he's sentenced to a mental institution instead of prison. The chief psychiatrist (Kristofferson) has an interesting form of therapy consisting of drugs, a straitjacket, and sensory deprivation in a morgue drawer. Vet's reaction to this is, of course, to timetravel, allowing him to confront the ghosts of his present in the future and effect changes for the general good of all. Interesting premise, but handled with a lead foot and little originality. Think "Jacob's Ladder" meets "Twelve Monkeys" meets "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". Fairly entertaining with good performances by solid cast. 102m/C DVD. US Adrien Brody, Keira Knightley, Kris Kristofferson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kelly Lynch, Brad Renfro, Daniel Craig, MacKenzie Phillips; Director: John Maybury; Writer: Massy Tadjedin; Writer: Peter Deming; Cameo: Brian Eno.
