The Interpreter (2005) The Interpreter

The Interpreter ★★★½ 2005 (PG-13) White, native African U.N. interpreter Sylvia Broome (Kidman) accidently overhears a plot to kill the corrupt and murderous president of a small African country, a man with whom her family has a past. Tobin Keller (Penn) is the burnedout, recently-widowed Secret Service agent assigned to investigate her claim and, if necessary, protect her as a possible witness. Pollack's taut thriller is well-paced and full of twists and revelations that succeed in keeping the resolution in doubt right up to the end. Kidman and Penn are excellent, as is Keener in the thankless role of Keller's level-headed partner. 128m/C DVD.
