The Indian Runner (1991) The Indian Runner

The Indian Runner ★★½ 1991 (R) Penn's debut as a writer-director tells the story of two brothers in Nebraska during the late '60s, who are forced to change their lives with the loss of their family farm. Joe is a good cop and family man who can't deal with the rage of his brother Frank, who has just returned from Vietnam and is turning to a life of crime. Penn does a decent job of representing the struggle between the responsible versus the rebellious side of human nature. Quiet and very stark. Based on the song "Highway Patrolman" by Bruce Springsteen. 127m/C VHS, Wide. David Morse, Viggo Mortensen, Sandy Dennis, Charles Bronson, Valeria Golino, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Benicio Del Toro; Director: Sean Penn; Writer: Sean Penn.
