The Haunting ★★★½ 1963 A subtle, bloodless horror film about a weekend spent in a monstrously haunted mansion by a parapsychologist (Johnson), the mansion's skeptic heir (Tamblyn), and two mediums (Harris and Bloom). A chilling adaptation of Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House," in which the psychology of the heroine is forever in question. There's a silly 1999 remake that's all special effects and no scares. 113m/B VHS.
