Grey Owl (1999) Grey Owl

Grey Owl ★★½ 1999 (PG-13) Interesting old-fashioned biopic suffers from miscasting (and it's not Brosnan, although he takes a little getting used to). Based on the true story of Archie Grey Owl (Brosnan), an Ojibway trapper in 1930s Canada who changes his occupation and becomes an ardent early environmentalist and celebrity lecturer and writer. Only after his death does the truth come out—Archie was in fact Englishman Archibald Belaney. Film bogs down in its romantic aspects with Galipeau, as Grey Owl's young Mohawk girlfriend, sadly out of her depths. 117m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. GB CA Pierce Brosnan, Annie Galipeau, Vlasta Vrana, Nathaniel Arcand, David Fox, Charles Powell, Renee Asherson, Stephenie Cole, Graham Greene; Director: Richard Attenborough; Writer: William Nicholson; Writer: Roger Pratt; Cameo: George Fenton.
