Girl (1998) Girl

Girl ★★½ 1998 (R) Suburban 18-year-old Andrea Marr (Swain) is bored by her usual life and her virginity. She decides to try on the local club scene and spots musician Todd Sparrow (Flanery), becoming his groupie, and also taking up with cool chick singer Cybil (Reid) and her friends who are in a band. This try at self-discovery ultimately proves less-than-satisfying for Andrea. Lots of cliched issues are dealt with in the most cursory fashion. Based on the novel by Blake Nelson. 99m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. Dominique Swain, Sean Patrick Flanery, Tara Reid, Summer Phoenix, Selma Blair, Channon Roe, Portia de Rossi, Christopher K. Masterson, Rosemary Forsyth, James Karen; Director: Jonathan Kahn; Writer: David E. Tolchinsky; Writer: Tami Reiker; Cameo: Michael Tavera.
