Fools of Fortune (1990) Fools of Fortune

Fools of Fortune ★★½ 1990 (PG-13) Adaptation of William Trevor's novel depicting Willie Clinton's childhood and adult experiences of family dramatics played against the backdrop of post-WWI Ireland. During the Irish war for independence, a family is attacked by British soldiers, creating emotional havoc for the survivors. Though well-acted and poignant, it's a rather disjointed and straying shamrock opera. 104m/C VHS. GB Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Iain Glen, Julie Christie, Michael Kitchen, Sean McClory, Frankie McCafferty; Director: Pat O'Connor; Writer: Michael Hirst; Cameo: Hans Zimmer.
