A Fish Called Wanda (1988) A Fish Called Wanda

A Fish Called Wanda ★★★ 1988 (R) Absurd, high-speed farce about four criminals trying to retrieve $20 million they've stolen from a safety deposit box—and each other. Meanwhile, barrister Archie Leech (Cleese) falls in love with the female thief, Wanda (Curtis). Some sick, but tastelessly funny, humor involves Palin's problem with stuttering and some very dead doggies. Written by Monty Python alum Cleese and director Crichton, who understand that silence is sometimes funnier than speech, and that timing is everything. Wickedly funny. 98m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. John Cleese, Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Palin, Tom Georgeson, Maria Aitken, Patricia Hayes, Geoffrey Palmer, Andrew MacLachlan; Director: Charles Crichton; Writer: Charles Crichton, John Cleese; Writer: Alan Hume; Cameo: John Du Prez. Oscars '88: Support. Actor (Kline); British Acad. '88: Actor (Cleese), Support. Actor (Palin).
