I Dreamed of Africa (2000) I Dreamed of Africa

I Dreamed of Africa ★★½ 2000 (PG-13) Okay the scenery is beautiful (it was filmed in Kenya), including blonde Basinger, but the story is predictable and trite despite being based on the autobiography of Italian socialite Kuki Gallmann. Gallmann (Basinger) trades in her designer duds for safari khaki when she, her young son, Emanuele (Aiken), and her second husband, Paolo (Perez), decide they need a fresh start. The somewhat irresponsible Paolo likes to go big game hunting with his friends, leaving Kuki alone, and she eventually becomes a conservationist after some personal tragedies. Most of the roles, except Basinger's, are one-dimensional. 114m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. Kim Basinger, Vincent Perez, Eva Marie Saint, Daniel Craig, Lance Reddick, Liam Aiken, Garrett Strommen; Director: Hugh Hudson; Writer: Paula Milne, Susan Shilliday; Writer: Bernard Lutic; Cameo: Maurice Jarre.
