Don Quixote (2000) Don Quixote

Don Quixote ★★ 2000 Spanish nobleman Alonso Quijano of La Mancha (Lithgow) decides to dedicate himself to chivalry. With his sanity in question, he dubs himself a knight errant—becoming Don Quixote—picks up sidekick Sancho Panza (Hoskins), and finds his lady fair—washerwoman Dulcinea (Williams). Episodic retelling has a number of familiar touches (including windmill-tilting) but doesn't add up to much, although the Spanish scenery is a plus. Based on Miguel de Cervantes' 1605 novel. 150m/C VHS. John Lithgow, Bob Hoskins, Vanessa L(ynne) Williams, Isabella Rossellini, James Purefoy, Lambert Wilson, Tony Haygarth, Peter Eyre; Director: Peter Yates; Writer: John Mortimer; Writer: David Connell; Cameo: Richard Hartley.
