Don Juan DeMarco (1994) Don Juan DeMarco

Don Juan DeMarco ★★½ 1994 (PG-13) Burned-out clinical psychiatrist Dr. Jack Meckler (Brando) is romantically inspired by a cape-wearing, suicidal man-child from Queens (Depp), who thinks he's legendary lover Don Juan. Delusional Depp recounts, in a convincing Castilian accent, thousands of conquests as the sympathetic shrink decides it's time to bring some spice to his own ho-hum life and marriage (to Dunaway). Depp turns in a sincere, engaging performance that avoids the huge potential for melodrama and compensates for inconsistent pacing. Brando and Dunaway make a charmingly quirky couple. Watch for slain Tejano queen Selena in a musical interlude. 92m/C VHS, DVD. Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp, Faye Dunaway, Geraldine Pailhas, Rachel Ticotin, Bob (Robert) Dishy, Talisa Soto; Director: Jeremy Leven; Writer: Jeremy Leven; Writer: Ralf Bode; Cameo: Michael Kamen.
