Crazy in Alabama (1999) Crazy in Alabama

Crazy in Alabama ★½ 1999 (PG-13) If they greenlighted this southern fried mess, they're crazy in Hollywood, too. Lucille (Griffith) is an unbalanced aging southern belle who decapitates her husband and heads off to fulfill her dream of becoming a Hollywood star. She also takes his severed noggin with her, although it is a little talkative. Woven through this bizarre storyline is another that focuses on Lucille's nephew Peejoe back home in Alabama as he stands up to a bigoted sheriff, helps protest for civil rights and meets Martin Luther King. Banderas' directoral debut is fine technically, but veers wildly all over the road as far as content goes. 111m/C VHS, DVD, Wide. Melanie Griffith, David Morse, Lucas Black, Cathy Moriarty, Meat Loaf Aday, Rod Steiger, Richard Schiff, John Beasley, Robert Wagner, Noah Emmerich, Sandra Seacat, Paul Ben-Victor, Brad Beyer, Fannie Flagg, Elizabeth Perkins, Linda Hart, Paul Mazursky, William Converse-Roberts, Holmes Osborne, David Speck; Director: Antonio Banderas; Writer: Mark Childress; Writer: Julio Macat; Cameo: Mark Snow.
