The China Syndrome (1979) The China Syndrome

The China Syndrome ★★★½ 1979 (PG) A somewhat unstable executive at a nuclear plant uncovers evidence of a concealed accident and takes drastic steps to publicize the incident. Lemmon is excellent as the anxious exec, while Fonda and Douglas are scarcely less distinguished as a sympathetic TV journalist and camera operator, respectively. Tense, prophetic thriller that ironically preceded the Three Mile Island accident by just a few months. Produced by Douglas. 123m/C VHS, DVD. Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, Michael Douglas, Scott Brady, James Hampton, Peter Donat, Wilford Brimley, James Karen; Director: James Bridges; Writer: James Bridges, Mike Gray, T.S. Cook; Writer: James A. Crabe. British Acad. '79: Actor (Lemmon), Actress (Fonda); Cannes '79: Actor (Lemmon); Writers Guild '79: Orig. Screenplay.
