Calendar Girls (2003) Calendar Girls

Calendar Girls ★★½ 2003 (PG-13) The local members of the Women's Institute club in Yorkshire decide to pose nude for a calendar in order to raise money for leukemia research. The calendar, surprisingly, is a hit, even though the models are a little older than your usual calendar pinup girls. Enjoyable for the right audience (read: fans of veddy understated British humor that is secondary to the drama), but starts losing cohesiveness near the end. Loosely based on a true story. 108m/C VHS, DVD. GB Helen Mirren, Julie Walters, John Alderton, Linda Bassett, Annette Crosbie, Philip Glenister, Ciaran Hinds, Celia Imrie, Geraldine James, Penelope Wilton, George Costigan, Graham Crowden, John Fortune; Cameos: Jay Leno; Director: Nigel Cole; Writer: Juliette Towhidi, Tim Firth; Writer: Ashley Rowe; Cameo: Patrick Doyle.
