The Babe (1992) The Babe

The Babe ★★½ 1992 (PG) Follows the life of legendary baseball player Babe Ruth, portrayed as a sloppy drunkard whose appetites for food, drink, and sex were as large as he was. Alvarado and McGillis do well as the Babe's first and second wives, but this is Goodman's show from start to finish. He's excellent as Ruth, and looks the part, but his fine performance can't make up for a lackluster script filled with holes. 115m/C VHS. Michael (Mike) Papajohn, John Goodman, Kelly McGillis, Trini Alvarado, Bruce Boxleitner, Peter Donat, J.C. Quinn, Richard Tyson, James Cromwell, Joe Ragno, Bernard Kates, Michael McGrady, Stephen Caffrey; Director: Arthur Hiller; Writer: John Fusco; Writer: Haskell Wexler; Cameo: Elmer Bernstein.
